As for the merchant provider, if you are involved in any local business groups, like the Chamber of Commerce or similar business associations, or networking groups like BNI or similar independent referral groups, there are always reps for merchant providers looking for people to switch over to their companies. Since most of them have to meet quotas, they are often willing to waive or halve the application fee (or whatever they call it -- a few hundred $ worth of initial fee) in order to gain a new client. I happen to use RBSLynk, after switching over from whatever I started with (after being talked into switching by a woman from some such business group), and it seems they're all pretty much the same, when you get right down to it.
