You simply don't expect a Linux or Windows box to last long enough for such problems to appear. Maybe it's just a case of corrupted files accumulating over the years? Have you tried the regular computer mainteneance stuff? Deleting preference files? Rebuilding desktop? (No, forget that, we don't rebuild desktops anymore) Reinstalling software? Servers need that kind of mainteneance just like any other computer but it's so much harder to do since it means taking it offline for a while.
