and I am thinking of the virtual servers. VPS
I had an linux with centos and apachi with webmin and virtualmin that i was trying to head towards using to consolidate.

i am still trying to see if i can consolidate hosting without recoding.

on a current real linux server with centos and apachi and V6 I have:
i have some sites that use no commerce tags that could easily go under V7
but I=A0 still also have several (not many maybe 4-5) active stores under V6

on another virtual server:
I also have some word press sites
(has a nice installer and updater for the word press updates)
and regular HTML sites

On my main windows server i have my high traffic critical HTML sites
and my mail server
(so i do not run any scripted sites on that server)

so to minimize servers i would either :
put my own sites and my mail server on one
and word press/webdna/some low traffic html sites on another.

or

all html sites and mail server on one and
wordpress/webdna on the other.

trying to consolidate the wordpress
webdna 6 and future use of webdna 7 on one server setup (without recoding for extensions or changes to V7)
is what gets me stuck. its a real puzzle.

splitting it all up keeps same number of servers and expense so
I just end up moving a lot for nothing gained except newer machines.

also looking at lots of little Vhosts but not sure where an inexpensive enough place to install V6 with root access etc is.

would be nice if the ability was there for more than one VPS install of V6 ...dreaming...

Hi Jym, I believe you are getting "VPS" confused with apache's "virtual host" system. A VPS *is* an entire (virtual) *server*. I was saying that there is no reason you couldn't install WebDNA for just one virtual *host*... other than right now WebDNA 6x creates a socket with a static name (if I remember right). The result is that you can't really install WebDNA6 twice on the same server. We had a build that created a unique socket in /tmp (amongst other things)... it was a test for the then future idea of a fastCGI build.=A0 ...not sure if it is still around, but wit= h a working WebDNA 7, it's not as much enticing at this point.. though definitely still interesting.

As it sits right now, and much like PHP.. you can optionally install WebDNA 6x for one host a single server only.. limiting WebDNA's reach to other hosts.
