WebTen is actually Apache in a Rhapsody wrapper which runs on MacOS. It supports all the perl scripts etc. which are available widely for Apache Webserver for Unix and at the other end also supports the Web* plug-in technology. To run WebCatalog fast, you would probably want to have as much internal memory as you can afford, since the databases WebCat uses are loaded into memory. We also have an NT server running (not yet with WebCat) with Internet Information Server 3.0. IIS is bloody fast as a webserver, but the bottleneck is not so much the webserver as is much more the link with the Internet. It seems that most webservers have no problem with serving up pages fast enough through even a T1 line (except for Web* in a test by ZDInternet Magazine published lately). We haven't figured out yet how to support true virtual hosting on Windows NT yet. Maybe someone else on the list could give more details on that. With WebTen each website gets its own ip address, so that its not based on header based virtual hosting. We looked into setting this up with IIS under NT for its web- and ftp services but could not find a way to do it. If it's not possible, I would stick for sure with the Mac.Last, if you have seen the developerrelease of Rhapsody running, you probably wouldn't want to thing anymore about NT (even though we like NT a lot), but this is purely a personal opinion.Greetings, John ter Welle ter.welle@lettrix.nl>I have right now a 7300/180 running QDNSpro, Webstar2, Filemaker,Tango and >EIMS and I need WebCatalog insted of Tango and FileMaker, I'm not sure if >it is better for me change webcatalog to a NT. >I'm notice webstar is slowdown when I have 7 or more Current users and I >do not whant this to happen with WebCatalog. >I can buy more memory if it's necesary. >What do you think?
