texte = Several people mentioned Emailer problems. There's nothing special about the functions Emailer offers that cannot be performed more consistently and reliably by other software. One solution is simply to get rid of Emailer, and use another email sending software instead. SMTP SERVER OPTIONS:Instead of Emailer, you can use AIMS or EIMS or SIMS running on your Mac WebCatalog server. I use SIMS because it is faster than both AIMS and EIMS. And when SIMS runs into a problem with a non-deliverable message, it places that message into the trash, so SIMS will not *get stuck* on a bad message.AIMS, EIMS and SIMS all have a special folder which is used as a depository for outgoing email messages. Any properly formatted AND properly addressed text file dropped into this folder will be delivered to the recipient(s). Change your WebCatalog Prefs to point to this folder, and WebCatalog will place its [sendmail] files into this folder, instead of into the corresponding Emailer folder. The only problem I'm aware of when using this technique with some (or all) of these Macintosh email servers is the fact that you MUST place a carriage return into your [sendmail] files -- immediately before the [/sendmail] tag -- or they may not send the message. Apparently a properly formatted email file end with a carriage return, so don't forget it and you'll be just fine.Other than that one particular quirk, I've never seen or heard of any problems using any of these Mac-based mail servers instead of Emailer. POP3 SENDING OPTION:From what I understand, Eudora can be configured to send WebCat messages as well. And in fact, if I'm not mistaken, Eudora has some special advantages over the SMTP servers mentioned above. For one thing, Eudora can encrypt outgoing messages via PGP. Another Eudora advantage is that it can attach files to its outgoing messages.I haven't tried using Eudora, but I'm very interested in hearing from anyone who is using a combined Eudora/WebCatalog or Eudora/WebMerchant system to automatically send attached files ... :)Sincerely, Ken Grome 808-737-6499 WebDNA Solutions mailto:ken@webdna.net http://www.webdna.net Associated Messages, from the most recent to the oldest:
