Make sure that there are no MDB or corruption problems.2) If your finder prefs are corrupt, you can trash them (start with Extensions off, go into System Folder: Preferences and throw away the Finder Preferences and restart). Either way, this is a quick way to check if the problem is with your preferences.Generally, either #1 or #2 will fix it. If not, try #3.3) Try doing a clean minimal install of 8.5 (and the 8.5.1 upgrade). Now you'll have System Folder and Previous System Folder. Rename System Folder to spare parts (or something) and rename Previous System Folder to System Folder. You'll now have to unbless the (now) spare parts folder. To do this, go into the spare parts folder, remove the Finder and set it on your desktop. Go into your old System Folder (was titled Previous System Folder) and double-click on the finder. Close the System Folder. This should have the effect of moving the smiling MacOS logo off the spare parts folder and onto the System Folder. if you didn't notice the icon switch, try closing all open windows and then opening the root window by double-clicking the hard drive icon. If it still hasn't switched, separate the system and finder files in the spare parts folder and doing the finder double-click again in the System Folder. With this it will switch.Essentially, what we've done is installed a second system folder, unblessed it and put the blessing back onto your original system folder. The blessed system folder is the one that will boot the Mac. At this point, you now have a extra system folder full of interchangeable parts, so you can drag out the old finder, replace it with a new finder and restart.4) Get cron 1.2 and use it to launch all of your apps. Cron is designed to execute files at a certain time and is not dependant on the Startup Items Folder. Either that, or build and AppleScript that executes at a specific time to launch your apps.Hope this helps.>Hey guys ,I have a question about system 8.5.1.... >We just got a new Yosemite 400 mhz G3 in here and its been running great, >servering pages like there is no tommorrow, but today just about 30 minutes >ago, we got an error booting up, right when it starts to load everything it >gives a FINDER has unexpectedly quit , restart blah blah, but the finder >does not crash, the only thing that happens is it prevents the start up >items from loading.
