I don't think there's been a sudden paradigm shift that means they are out to steal clients. I think a prospective client of one developer saw the website and decided on their own to get a 2nd opinion. Our clients contract with us because we are us. They want our programming skills and professional judgements. They may want somebody near to them to have frequent in house meetings. I haven't seen enough evidence of evil conflict-of-interest actions to generate all the doom-and-gloom notices on this list. The do-it-yourself product coming out by SM competes with all the yahoos, amazon's z-shops, etc., not what I do for my clients - give a personality, marketing advantage to their site over the competitors. We all want great customer services and timely delivery of new features on a fast, stable product. A developer network would be great as well. Perhaps a website we could show prospective clients without tempting consulting offers would really help.If there's further evidence of a paradigm shift in SM's business, I'd be more worried. But it seems their consulting is business as usual as it has been since at least 1996.
