The [tcpconnect] context can't talk SSL right now. So, rather than using an email service, set up your own dedicated fax server with HTML->fax support. While it would be nice to outsource this, a server of this sort isn't hard to set up and support.I have a lot of reasons for wanting to outsource the faxing. Netmoves can reliably send a one page fax for approx $.10 anywhere in the country - the phone charge for sending a fax locally would be at least $.10 plus there would be the cost of the phone lines, maintaining and supporting the server etc. Also, I want to colocate the server in a facility with multiple T3's where local phone lines might not be available. Also, at peak times the volume of faxes could saturate such an inhouse setup causing critical delays and loss of customer confidence (imagine 100 orders in a ten minute period - that's a lot of faxing). In addition using Netmoves would allow this commerce solution to easily scale to other geographic areas without any additional work.>The other solution is to not contain the sensitive information in the fax, but include a full URL back to the data on your server which requires password entry. Many of the fax recipients don't have internet access. Also, requiring both fax and internet transmission to receive an order increases the amount of work and number of failure points. If the intended recipients did have reliable, always on, internet access I'd still need a good fax solution as a backup.*** Question: Is there some industry standard encryption tool I could have WebCat process an outgoing email with that anyone knows of? Is the emailer app capable of industry standard encryption? Perhaps I could persuade Netmoves to set themselves up to receive and decrypt it. > >I am setting up a retail site which plans to receive several hundred/thousand orders a day. These orders will be approx in the $20 range. Once these orders are accepted they need to be immediately forwarded to one of a variety of fax numbers for immediate time-sensitive fulfillment. So I need a way of faxing lots of webcat orders securely (they contain confidential info) and receiving status feedback as to the success of the fax. I would like to outsource the faxing work to a dedicated fax serving company. > > > >Has anyone implemented a solution for such a situation? So, I could send the orders from WebCat by email, have them send the fax and check the status on their website using the TCP context (I have no experience yet with the TCP context). The major shortcoming in this is that email isn't a secure solution. Netmoves offers a set of API's (for Windows only) to construct an application on your server to communicate with them. However, writing such an app is currently beyond me and I don't want to commit to NT anyway. Is there some way I could use the TCP context to open an ssl session with a web page? > > > >Robert Schmidt > >rschmidt@constructs.com ------------------------------------------------------------- Brought to you by CommuniGate Pro - The Buzz Word Compliant Messaging Server.
