We did move the primary mail server (EIMS) off the web server so we could run SIMS (http://www.stalker.com) on the web server and not user Emailer. This combo works great. If you need to keep the primary mail server on the web server, you can use SIMS to replace EIMS. Its user interface is less friendly than EIMS but it works like a champ. I believe the SIMS package contains a mailbox importer you can use to migrate your EIMS accounts to SIMS but you'll still need to re-enter their passwords.
