Changing user submitted data

texte = Here is my problem I need to change some text that a user submits into a data base. I know this is possible because when you send an email to the talk list, when smithmicro archives it on search.smithmicro.com the words like Webcatalog are changed into links. So anyway how is this done?P.S.
