You missed my point as well as the explanation Charles gave of his problem, which had nothing to do with your problem even though they both involved the use of the [date] tag ...According to your own tests, if they are correct, the new date syntax *requires* format=, and the old syntax *fails* when format= is used. That means the new syntax is incompatible with old syntax, which means old sites will break when upgrading to version 4 unless you recode them. But then if you have an as-yet unknown problem with version 4, you cannot go back to version 3 without reverting to the original code again ...This is just ONE of the two problems I was referring to above. The other problem, which Charles was having, is related to changes in the variable hierarchy and had nothing to do with the use or non-use of format= in his code.
