One thing you can try is to use the CompletionChar option; run REGEDT32 and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command Processor\CompletionCharchange it from 0x0 to 0x9 (tab) and close RegEdit. Now when you open a CMD window, you can type a partial command and hit TAB to complete it. If you CD into the parent directory containing one of those illegal directories and type ren and hit TAB repeatedly until you find each directory in turn and rename it into something you can type.If this doesn't work you can try installing CygWin, which is a POSIX shell for NT/W2k/XP. Using the Bash shell, you may be able to rename the directories in a similary way; *nix permits much more variability in the naming of files and directories and files and you can escape out normally illegal characters. You can once again try and use the TAB completion feature to make the shell figure out how to escape the directory names for you.HTHJohnp.s. needless to say, this machine is no longer connected to the Internet (or any network for that matter), right? ------------------------------------------------------------- This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
