When speaking with various US based companies they will not let me set up an account due to me (the principal) living outside of the US. Even though the bank account they would deposit into is in the US. I was told they are concerned that I could empty the account, then shut down the site and they would be stuck with all the charge-back complaints. Ignoring that I am an American, have had an account at that bank for 9 years, my house is in that town and the site has been online for over 7 years. They somehow think that anyone living outside the US is just waiting to take advantage of them. Or that you must put up an estimated 6 months worth of charges in escrow which they control (and even with that, they will delay paying you the receipts for 3-4 months, just in case). So in effect they are requiring close to 1 years worth of expected charges in order to do business with them. Heck, if I had that amount of money laying around I wouldn't need to charge for anything! The folks at worldpay (I think that was the name) have no problem with me living in Germany as they are international, but they require the actual checkout be done on their secure server and use their merchant account. While the rates don't seem too bad (5% discount rate for non-US currencies, about 3.3% + 0.50 per transaction) I really think I would prefer to have my own merchant account.I also need to deal with a US or worldwide company due to the majority of users paying in USD (I don't want them to complain about having to pay a 1-2% currency exchange rate and possibly do a charge back due to this). So does anyone have any suggestions on how/where to get a US merchant account while the owner of the company lives outside of the US? ------------------------------------------------------------- This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
