Sports will return a lot of results, whereas basketball supplies will place you in the correct grouping.2. Include your keywords in the title of the page, keyword meta tag, description meta tag, file names, directory names, alt tags, etc.3. Reciprocal links are very important. Google ranks your site higher when many other sites link to it.4. Don't use any automated submission software. Most of the search engines/directories will catch it and reject your submission. Repeated attempts may even get your listing banned.5. Analyze what your high-ranking competitors are doing. While legal precedent prevents you from stealing someone else's keyword and description meta tags, it doesn't hurt to look them over to see what was done correctly.6. Don't create gateway pages that contain nothing but keywords. Also, make sure your text and background colors are not the same. Search engines will pick up on this trick and remove your listing (if they decide to index it in the first place).7. Vigilance pays off. You can't just get a high-ranking and forget about it. Because, everyone and their brother will try to knock you off that post.8. To second what Jeff Logan said, it's very beneficial to use pay-for-placement services like Overture. We have used Overture, and we immediately saw a difference. While I'm morally opposed to these services, there's no disputing the fact that they work.On 2/25/03 1:54 PM, Marc wrote:> If someone could provide more information about how to get higher > rankings on Google, that would be fantastic.
