The Compaq BIOS files are typically self extracting disk images, so you'll probably need access to at least some Windows machine to expand the file. I don't know if Compaq/HP has your BIOS in a form that you could expand it using Linux. It doesn't bode well if the BIOS lacks support for CD-ROM devices entirely, since that usually means that the drivers need to be loaded after boot.
