Let's face it, neither SMSI nor any other company that has owned or controlled WebCatalog or WebDNA since the software's inception has ever truly honored those who do the most to support it. Instead they seem to take pride in ignoring all the valuable contributions we make, and in the end this is how we are treated ... as "free labor" to be walked on whenever SMSI feels like it ... :( Years ago when it was still owned by Pacific Coast Software, they offered me two licensed boxed copies of their software in exchange for my contributions. But guess what? Instead all they sent me was a huge (XXL) sweatshirt -- which of course I had no use for whatsoever given that I was living in Hawaii ... not to mention that it didn't even fit me. At least I could have tried to sell a copy of their software if they had honored their promise and sent me software instead of clothing. But knowing that they were not "legally" bound to live up to their verbal promises, they did not allow "integrity" to control their decisions, and all I got was a sweatshirt to compensate me for the literally hundreds of hours I invested in beta testing, development and support. I have other stories about the company and the people involved too, but it's all "water under the bridge" at this point in my life. In other words, it's not worth my time to get into it any more since I'm convinced that the software will soon be abandoned ... for very good reason too, because SMSI clearly doesn't know how to make it profitable, nor do they recognize the value of honoring their best and longest term customers. I don't know how to make it profitable either now, although I had lots of great ideas years ago when the software industry hadn't reached its current state. But most of those thoughts are no longer viable because "the window of opportunity" has long since passed for those concepts to work -- and for WebDNA to be successful in the face of such prolific and focused competition. The shame about it all is that SMSI will never make WebDNA open source so we can continue to develop it ourselves. Instead they will begrudgingly hold onto it, and quietly fail to support it any more -- except possibly as an in-house product to support their hosting and web development services. This is only my personal prediction, but let's just see how long it actually takes until we all see that I am correct, shall we? :) Sincerely, Kenneth Grome www.kengrome.com > > > > > Stuart Tremain > idfk web developments, sydney, australia > > > On 11 Dec 2005, at 9:31 AM, Gary Krockover wrote: > >> Where has good ole' Alain been?
