texte = My 2 centavos lean toward an Ubuntu Box running on Dual Core Xeons. Asus mobos have been very good to me. I initially ran Fedora from versions 2-7 but I prefer Ubuntu hands down now. I ran Xserves for many years, and they always seemed a little sluggish to me. It also bugged the crap out of me that they stupid Software Update would always be trying to update iTunes on my Server...iTunes on a Server for cryin' out loud! As for LAMP, mysql, PHP you can configure the server right outta the box for that. I run CommuniGate Pro for mail service, MPP from MessagePartners for AntiSpam/Antivirus, and Men and Mice Small Business Suite for DNS. I have also found that I could get answers to critical questions a lot more readily just by Googling. The Linux community is huge. It just seems the whole Ubuntu setup on reasonable hardware just runs and runs and runs Just my 2 centavos though...depends what is more important to you. Yea, going intel would eliminate the idea of installing webdna (for the time being anyway)... but the idea on this box is to have primarilly a gaming server. :-) (I buy space from server farms for my web clients). However, I'd like to have a LAMP model running on the machine as well... and mail. I checked the apple discount store thinking there may be some G5 refurbished machines... no go on that. I may try some of the retail stores to see if they have any old models they want to deal with. I may even look into acquiring a duel G5 and then installing ubuntu on that! They appear to really support the mac platform over there. That may solve Clint's remarks about mySQL and, at the same time, allow me to run WebDNA.
