Problems w/ heavy use of cart header fields?

texte = I recently changed a project over to send user and password information via a cart's header fields. Well, it's made my life so much easier, I've been adding a lot of information to the generic (header1 - header40) fields as well. I'm wondering if frequently setting, resetting and accessing these cart header fields will cause a big performance hit. Do each of these calls read/write to the hard drive, or are carts cached in memory at all?
