problems with [getcookie]

Whe a customer first enters the product pages, I use: [SETCOOKIE name=AKCART&value=[CART]&path/ak/&domain=myserver.com] Then, when a customer adds an item to his/her cart, I use:
When I first log onto the product pages, I get the warning box that a cookie with value=x is being set on my computer. However, the number which has been assigned to the cart (y) is not the same as the number x. Infact, even if I re-enter the product page and reassign a new cookie, the number given to the cart is still the same (y).
