texte = Just FYI - ODBC is a mildly cross-platform database access system, biased towards Windows (oddly enough). It operates under MacOS because Microsoft chose to develop drivers for it. M$oft has not now, and probably never will, develop ODBC support for any Unix derivative. There are third-party ODBC drivers available under Unix, some free, some expensive. See http://users.ids.net/~bjepson/FreeODBC/ for some pointers.ODBC is at all times and in all ways vastly inferior to any native database driver, and is likely to remain that way forever, primarily because Microsoft has no desire to support non-M$soft platforms. However, it does provide a lowest common denominator means of access multiple back end databases.John Peacock____________________Reply Separator____________________ Subject: Re: WebCatalog + Linux + ODBC + Oracle ! ? Author: (WebCatalog Talk) Date: 3/15/00 10:32 PM I find this rather disturbing. You are selling a product that you claim is cross platform. You also claim that this product will connect to RDBMS. You charge the same price for all platforms yet the Strongets platform will not do SQL or ODBC! and you expect existing WebCat 3 customers to pay a fee to upgrade. I was just about to order some more copies of WebCatalog to talk to Oracle, not knowing that it cannot under Unix. Do you have any plans to Introduc an Oracle or indeed any RDBMS driver? Or will this be left to vague Third Partys to develop.------------------------------------------------------------- This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
