texte = Just FYI - ODBC is a mildly cross-platform database access system, biased towards Windows(oddly enough). It operates under MacOS because Microsoft chose to developdrivers for it. M$oft has not now, and probably never will, develop ODBCsupport for any Unix derivative. There are third-party ODBC drivers availableunder Unix, some free, some expensive. Seehttp://users.ids.net/~bjepson/FreeODBC/ for some pointers.ODBC is at all times and in all ways vastly inferior to any native databasedriver, and is likely to remain that way forever, primarily because Microsofthas no desire to support non-M$soft platforms. However, it does provide alowest common denominator means of access multiple back end databases.John Peacock____________________Reply Separator____________________Subject: Re: WebCatalog + Linux + ODBC + Oracle ! ? (WebCatalog Talk)Date: 3/15/00 10:32 PM I find this rather disturbing. You are selling a productthat you claim is cross platform. You also claim that thisproduct will connect to RDBMS. You charge the same price forall platforms yet the Strongets platform will not do SQL orODBC! and you expect existing WebCat 3 customers to pay afee to upgrade. I was just about to order some more copiesof WebCatalog to talk to Oracle, not knowing that it cannotunder Unix. Do you have any plans to Introduc an Oracle orindeed any RDBMS driver? Or will this be left to vagueThird Partys to develop.-------------------------------------------------------------This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .To unsubscribe, E-mail to: To switch to the DIGEST mode, E-mail to
