The latest version of Netware (5.1) includes aCertificate Manager, which allows me to act as my own Certifying Organi-zation (CO). The user is required to add my Root Certificate as well asthe client certificate that I have issued for them. I haven't completedthe development (I need to add some checks for expired certificates),but it is an interesting way to deal with it.I am actually using Perl and O'Reilly's WebSite, though the more recentIIS's also support client certs. My Perl code is actually creating thepage on the fly, so that the client has access to their files only through my code (i.e. the files are not accessable from the web, exceptthrough my program). If you are interested in this sort of thing, you can also check outThawte's StrongExtranet, where they manage the certificates and you onlyprovide an authentication routine.
