Read the documentation2. Read the documentation3. Repeat steps one and two4. Play with the Tea Room and other samples5. If you still have a question, post it to this list6. Don't expect everyone here to jump with smiling faces at your problemAND7. Whatever you do, don't take Ken's responses personally!8. Do not respond back with off-handed, anti-Ken remarks (this is _truly_when the rhetoric and non-productive bantering begins.)9. And most importantly, don't ask the list how to configure your emailapplication's filtering capabilities. This basically negates anycredibility you might have had as someone who could possibly have enoughexpertise to condemn the invaluable advise given by Mr. Grome.Remember, your audience here is a strange mixture of programmers, artists, office grunts, internet gurus, and everything in between. The history ofthe list shows that not only was Ken one of the first to post his advisehere, but most of the members who are answering 99% of the questions todaywere at one time or another asking the same things of Ken.I had the unique opportunity of meeting Ken in person on a vacation toHawaii last year so I have an advantage over some of you on how to judgewhat he posts on this list. It may come as a surprise to some of you, butKen is actually a really nice guy. We went out for some 'local eats' at oneof his favorite spots and talked about all the kooks on the email list.Just kidding. We talked about everything from the fiber cable lying on thePacific Ocean floor that ties the Hawaiian islands to the rest of theinternet, to college and surfing. With this insight, I have good advise onhow to 'cope', if you will, with what might seem like short or terse advisefrom Ken on this list. Think of Ken as someone with lots of experience, lots of expertise, but not a lot of time to spend hand holding someonethrough things. Kind of like an older brother. You know how pointless itis to get in a fight with your older brother, so you don't even go there. You take what good kernel of advise you can and leave it at that. But youcertainly don't slap him with insults after he took time out to answer aquestion for you. I know the last thing Ken wants is to be proclaimed thebig brother of the list, so don't misunderstand what I'm trying to say. I'mnot electing him to any position, just advising those who aren't familiarwith his style on how to take full advantage of what you can learn from himwithout letting it turn your day upside down. The _last_ thing I would doif I wanted to learn about Webcatalog is filter out Ken's posts. That issheer stupidity. Just don't take them personally if they seem to strike anerve with you. And that's just good advise for any email list you're on.The wise person will let the water flow under the bridge and glean from itthe wisdom they need. Getting personal with the ebb and flow of the streamwill waste your time and not be beneficial to you or anyone else on thelist. And with that, I will stop wasting the majority of the list's time with thisdiatribe and get back to work. I hope those of you who would prefer tobicker about Ken would do the same.Mikeon 8/8/00 10:30 PM, Aaron Lynch at a.list@ninewire.com wrote:> Your Honor; on 8/8/00 8:32 PM, the Defendant, Kenneth Grome, confessed:>>>> Is there some way we can just exclude Ken's replies?
