Was random sort ever dealt with effectively???

This WebDNA talk-list message is from

2002

It keeps the original formatting.
numero = 44408
interpreted = N
texte = After reading a whole bunch of posts in the archives, I seem to think returning [founditems] in a random order isn't truly random.My code:[Search db=^eg/products.db&eqVisibleDatarq=T&eqPreferredDatarq=No&woSECTIONSdatarq=[cat]&SECTIONSword=ww&namewbrk=+&randomIDtype=num&randomIDsort=1&randomIDsdir=ra] [numfound] Listings

[Founditems] If I refresh the page where the search is on I get nearly same listings at the bottom or at the top and every few I get exact results as before . . . .I even added a new field called randomID with a random number generated from [cart] to try and get some more randomness.No luck.Its only 40 items now, but will grow and shrink a lot so a numbering sequence as was mentioned in the archives wouldn't work very well . . . .Has anyone come up with a good solution to sdir ??Or is it like this just because thats the way it is . .. . I'm using webcat vers 4.5 on NT 4.0 and IISThanks ------------------------------------------------------------- This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
