texte = This is way off topic, but I thought some of you might like a little puzzle to while away the Saturday evening (or Sunday morning - depending on where on the globe you live). As you may remember, I've had some problems keeping my site online recently. As a last desperate attempt to isolate the problems, I decided to dismantle most of the site and check each and every document thoroughly before re-uploading.I was careful to remove all the links to the dismantled documents from the remaining ones, but I know there are lots of people who have linked to and/or bookmarked pages deep within the site, so I wasn't surprised when the log file showed about 5000 more errors than usual. But then Jøran, the sys-op called me and told me *all* those 5000 extra errors had happened during a period of no more than half an hour, possibly much less! So: somebody had tried to access a large number of files deep inside the site during a very short time period. He, she or they had not come in through the front door, but by some external direct link, bookmarks or something like that. This happened during the time of day (or rather night) when we usually have problems with the server.I haven't had the chance to examine the log files thoroughly yet, but honestly, I can only think of two possible reasons for such a strange occurence. They're exactly the two reasons I don't want to think of?Does anybody have an idea for an alternative explanation?Frank Nordberghttp://www.musicaviva-------------------------------------------------------------This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list
