texte = As I've stated in prior postings to the talk list, the sole purpose ofproviding a new per 'website' licensing scheme is to offer an additional, alternative model at a lower price point for people that don't require an'unlimited' capability. It is not intended to introduce additional costsper website since we could have simply stayed with the old model of oneprice for 'unlimited' for everyone. This additional model allows a lowerentry point for people that want a pay as you grow model, yet maintainsthe ability for a business with a large installed base of customers to staywith the 'unlimited' license model. In creating a website/hostname licensing model, we had to examine how toimplement a mechanism that provides a well defined structure for identifyinga 'unique' website/hostname that would count as one licensed 'instance'. Atthe same time, this implementation could not impose an undue performancepenalty simply to resolve the unique website/hostname for licensing purposeson each page request. Such a potential performance impact would clearlydefeat the overall purpose of WebDNA as a high performance product. We have looked at this code in the engine again, also with the understandingthat to be truly useful to the broadest set of our customer community, awebsite most often has at least a few sub-domains for beta versions, secureaccess, etc. What we have determined is that this licensing model can bemodified to successfully resolve a unique domain name after the first '.' inthe complete website/hostname string WITHOUT imposing a general performancepenalty within the WebDNA engine for each page request. This adjustment tothe licensing mechanism will mean that the 'unique' website/hostname wouldbe the entire domain name that succeeds the first '.' in the completehostname string, which would be counted as a single 'instance' for licensingpurposes. This would then permit an arbitrary number of 'prefixes' thatappear prior to the first '.'. In this scenario the following would becounted as a single 'website' instance:www.mystore.us.combeta.mystore.us.comsecure.mystore.us.commonitor.mystore.us.comThe key value that is identified as unique is 'mystore.us.com', which wouldcount as a single 'website' instance for licensing purposes. Thisadjustment to the licensing model will allow the flexibility to createsub-domains that are common with the deployment of a single website throughthe use of prefixes, provide a secure licensing model necessary to permit usto enable a lower price point, and can be implemented without imposing ageneral performance penalty upon the WebDNA engine.
