Rather than hold up the 5.0 release for all otherplatforms, we choose to move ahead and ship 5.0.0 without FreeBSD. We willcontinue to work on resolving these compile issues with the goal being toprovide a FreeBSD build with a future 5.0 maintenance release. Since wehave a couple of enhancements that missed the train, we will be puttingout a 5.0.1 sooner rather than later to roll that all up.Phil B.-----Original Message-----From: Kalin Mintchev [mailto:kalin@el.net] Sent: Thursday, April 03, 2003 4:15 PMTo: WebDNA-Talk@talk.smithmicro.comSubject: Re: WebDNA 5.0 freeBSD?!!?hii posted this about 24 hours ago... everybody's quiet... are we the onlypeople on this list that use WC on freeBSD? that'll be very sad..we've been using webcatalog for the last 5 years. and went through all ofthem - from mac OS 8.5 to FreeBSD (except windows of course) - and theFreeBSD is the winner (for now), hands down. last night i was trying to getthe trial version of WebDNA 5.0 for FreeBSD and there is nowhere to find iton the smithmicro's site. it is a serious issue for us now because we arechanging hosting facilities and need to close the deal and chose OSs. theonly proprietary software we are using is WebDNA and it would be veryunpleasant if we are forced to go back to redhat (which is becomingwindows-y by the minute). today i called a sales rep at smithmicro and hesaid he's never heard of freebsZ OS and he learned from me that WebDNA 4 and4.5 are available for that mysterious operating system. that is a reason forserious concern. i was brushed off with the phrase that a very big guy, representing that scary company in seattle, used a few years back when askedif there will be a windows media encoder for the mac OSX: there is notenough demand... if there is one person that benefits - there is more thanenough demand....so please if somebody that reads this and has any information that suggeststhat WebDNA 5.0 and beyond will be available for the FreeBSD platform (orNOT) let me know somehow....thank you very much....ps: i do apologize for the rant but it is scary how good things/deeds getscrewed up because there isn't enough demand...On Thu, 3 Apr 2003, Kalin Mintchev wrote:>> hi again list,>> we've been very happy with the WebDNA 4.5 running on our FreeBSD > machines. i was trying to get the demo/trial version of WebDNA 5.0 for > FreeBSD and couldn't find it on the smithmicro's site...>> just wondering if anybody on this list has asked something about this > issue already and maybe has more information that would like to > share...>> thanks..>>>>> -------------------------------------------------------------> This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to> the mailing list
