If you log in, then your groupmembership will determine what additional navigation links/tabs becomevisibile to you. This group membership also extends to many of thebuilt in content areas, e.g., you can assign user groups to categoriesof photos, documents, news, etc., which then means that you have to belogged in as a member of that group to view any content in thosecategories. If you perform a search, and that search finds 'secure'content that you don't have access to, it will only tell you that it"found N secure items" ... You can only view them if you log in with theappropriate group to view those items. This allows SiteBuilder to beused for both Extranet and Intranet type applications as well aspublic-facing eCommerce sites. The new SiteBuilder greatly assists two different user communities: Ifyou are a non-technical customer that just wants to deploy a websitequickly, you can perform an extraordinary amount of customization in thelook and feel of your site, and use much of the built in functionalitywithout having to do any programming. If you are a highly technicalcustomer, e.g., a web developer, you can easily add your own templatesand value-add functionality to the framework presented by SiteBuilder, including adding the administrative areas for your custom work to theSiteBuilder admin. Thus, as a website developer, you can easily useSitebuilder as a rapid development framework for putting together thelayout, navigation, graphics, and color schemes of your 'custom' site, then spend your main effort on the value-added functionality you arebuilding for your own customers without having to build the entire siteadmin piece yourself. =20You can even mix-and-match WebDNA templates with templates in otherscripting languages very simply using SiteBuilder as a framework. Each'page' is broken down into a left, center, and right 'pane', and eachpane can be pointed directly at a WebDNA template or HTML file, or atemplate written in another scripting language simply through the use ofpage navigation admin ... Note that using a non-WebDNA scriptingtemplate within SiteBuilder would require selecting the use of an Iframefor that pane.Key note: the Intranet features included in the v6.0 SiteBuilder are nowunencrypted, so WebDNA developers can also take them and 'enhance' themto your own needs. If you're feeling generous towards the WebDNAcommunity, you might think of posting your enhancements to the DRCdownload area :-).Phil B.-----Original Message-----From: WebDNA Talk [mailto:WebDNA-Talk@talk.smithmicro.com] On Behalf OfChris TschidaSent: Wednesday, February 25, 2004 7:49 PMTo: WebDNA TalkSubject: comparison to Lasso 6 or 7Hi List,I have recently started to work with Lasso 7 and would like to get anyfeedback from this list about any comparisons to WebDNA. If you haveexperience in both, I would really appreciate your comments, howeverbrief.I am at this stage still open to making a switch to another softwarepackage since I have not gone down too far any tracks of largedevelopment. I am not really too concerned with a $value comparison butrather in features/security/ease/speed of building more complexmulti-user based custom web applications.Thank you in advance for your time to comment Cheers ChrisBOOST SMP LTDPH: (09) 361 2263FAX: (09) 361 2264WEB: www.boost-smp.co.nz-------------------------------------------------------------This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list
