texte = Just to wrap this thread up, the issues were not nearly as bad as I thought and the solution was simply pattern matching in BBedit. The offending characters were: "-˚† (somehow converted to nonsense (probably multiple encodings perhaps)) ..though there were maybe 15,000+ of those in the .db file I was working with.
