The meta-refreshing of the iframe was faster and easier to implement for a test, but now I'm thinking of switching to an XMLHTTPRequest located in the container page to do the iframe refreshing. This solution still makes each client poll the server, but the returned data can be smaller if I retrieve text instead of HTML. Using either of these techniques I should theoretically be able to retrieve a non-webdna text file *faster* than retrieving a webdna page. But so far my tests (with only one client) are showing a slower response time when retrieving a static text file, and I'm not sure why. So I have more testing to do, that's for sure ...
