I've been caught by this one a couple of times, once when I was running my own server, and again on a shared server. Of course you do have to be smart about it and set up BBEdit to do the right thing regarding line endings and clean up data if you take it from someone else, etc. I appreciate that some people are afraid to directly edit DB files, but it's unfair to try to scare everyone else out of doing so. I edit my DBs in BBEdit (only) all the time. In fact, I have closedatabase code at the bottom of most my pages that I can invoke if I need to reload a database after hand-editing. Usually, I find directly opening, looking, and editing to be the most efficient way to troubleshoot or fix something. The only times I can remember that a DB got corrupted was because the server ran out of disk space and couldn't update the db so it destroys it completely. Not pretty. I've been caught by this one a couple of times, once when I was running my own server, and again on a shared server.
