I am now running Webcat - beta 6.2.1 build - on the Google Compute Engine, on a Centos6 image I set up a 1500 GB bootable persistent disk - (20 GB) out of the box I can then attach the disk to any one of a number of Google VM instances, depending on my needs. Persistent disk I/O and costs https://developers.google.com/compute/pricing#persistentdisk My 1500 GB comes in at $60 a month -so I'll pay for that and then when I have something to crunch, spin up regular instance and do a test, then shut down the instance, spin up a bigger one, and run my routines. I could then probably write something to shut down the instance on completion - you get charged by ten min increments. High Memory VM instances are available amongst others - from 13 to 104 gb of memory which are in preview - and no, I have no idea how much those machines cost, I am running a regular set-up for now - Standard 1 CPU machine type with 1 virtual CPU and 3.75 GB of memory - I'm going to do a few tests on my data to see what the difference in performance will be. So costs aside, I'm pretty excited to have this working. if anybody want to knows more about it, let me know. d.
