I=E2=80=99m not talking the sta=ndard 3%, but the additional fees like gateway fees, commercial card fees, c=ompliance fees, monthly fees, and your own requirement of having an ssl doma=in and the ssl fees that go along with that. PayPal has none of that, and li=ke square, they also give you a way to swipe cards on your phone. I=E2=80=99=m just about ready to cancel my long standing merchant account. Just one mor=e site taking cards that I have to deal with. And speaking of running your own server, I started out in the 90s running m=y own server on a t-1 out of a spare bedroom, and saved a magnitude of month=ly cost when I went to a hosted solution. The internet is constantly changin=g and we have to adapt, generally for the better. Nowadays, I=E2=80=99m sell=ing MY OWN stuff on Etsy and retiring my lovingly crafted sites complete wit=h shopping cart and clever admin features. Furthermore, I=E2=80=99m using Wo=rdpress sometimes. And I=E2=80=99m steering clients that way too. There=E2=80==99s money to be made setting up Wordpress sites. Except for some messing ar=ound in the beginning, I only created custom sites (I=E2=80=99m not taking n=ew work now; trying to retire) where there was no other solution. In other w=ords, I don=E2=80=99t believe in reinventing the wheel. It=E2=80=99s not fai=r to the client. There=E2=80=99s plenty of custom work to be had.
