Let's work through this carefully and find out what the problem is.>I still can load any .tmpl file from the server that contains [protect admin] and it loads without a hitch. All other [xxx] tags seem to be working. The user.db contains the needed information. What gives??Does the administration URL work? Does it require a password? If so, but your other protected pages don't, then we need to look elsewhere for the problem. Here are some reasons why [protect] wouldn't throw up a dialog:1) Netscape has cached the correct password already 2) There is a username/password pair that are blank in your Users.db 3) You changed one of the field names in the Users.db 4) You moved Users.db out of the folder where WebCatalog.acgi resides 5) You moved MultiGroupChecker or InGroup out of the folder where WebCatalog.acgi residesWebCatalog indeed looks for these files relative to itself. There is no hard-coding of the paths, except if you count that it looks only in its own folder for these files. We consider all the files and folders inside the WebCatalog folder to be part of the WebCatalog package, and they need to stay in their relative positions to work. This *excludes* GeneralStore, Classifieds, TeaRoom, and DatabaseHelper, all of which can be moved anywhere on your site (we just put them there initially so they don't clutter up your web server folder). We were very careful to design WebCatalog so that you can bury it deeper into your folder hierarchy if you like, but I will have to play with it more tomorrow to verify this CGI-BIN thing, which I have not used much. (I'm looking at true virtual roots for WebTen, too). The reason for the first preference item in the Preferences URL WebServerFolder is to give WebCatalog a hint as to how deeply it's buried in your server folder. Tomorrow I will verify that moving the WebCatalog folder into WebSTAR/cgi-bin/ will work with suffix mapping and templates as long as the preference is set to ../../ or ::: in order to let it know that WebSTAR's root is one level higher than normal. And to everyone: let's not start flaming on this list -- I for one notice that I give much faster and more accurate answers to questions that are nicely worded. It's OK to be frustrated, but realize that the rest of us weren't there when your neck muscles were bulging. We spent thousands of man-hours and months in beta on this product, and so far the answer to any question has almost always been yeah, you can do that. If not, we tend to fix it and send you an update right away.Grant Hulbert, V.P.
