If either field contains a special character (like !=<>), the test will get confused by the extra character. You should never wrap the test variables with quotes, unless you are using the XML style tags, in which case all terms must be quoted.HTHJohn Peacockblo wrote: > > I needed to make a comparison between a value in a field of a db ([var1]) > and a variable passed in the url ([var2]) > > var1: > [Search db=xxxx.db&eqVAR1datarq=[VAR1]&eqCAT2datarq=[cat2_received]] > > var2: > http://xxx.xxx.xxx/store/xxx.tmpl?cat1=HDD&cat2=HDD_USB&var2=bloblo&ric1=ca > t1&ric2=cat2&ric3=prod&cart=317120520335 > > they both contain some text; > > I tried this: > [If [var1]=[var2]].... > > and it didn't work; I've displayed the two values and even when they are > identical, the if does not say so; > > this worked: > [If [var1]=[var2]].... > > why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why? > > is it normal to use quotation marks? > I'm not so new to wvat, and never needed quotation marks.... > is there any documentation about that? > tnxs > > ------- > blo :-> > > ------------------------------------------------------------- > This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to > the mailing list . > To unsubscribe, E-mail to: > To switch to the DIGEST mode, E-mail to > Web Archive of this list is at: http://search.smithmicro.com/------------------------------------------------------------- This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list . Since you didn't tell us what the field contains, but it is always a good idea to wrap both sides of a comparison with [url] like this:[If [url][var1][/url]=[url][var2][/url]]....WebCat interprets all field/variables and then resolves the [if] itself. If either field contains a special character (like !=<>), the test will get confused by the extra character.
