I assume emailers purpose was to be simple relaying engine. Since most of the administration about relaying (who can and can't) is done at the mail server level, I guess I can see why emailer hasn't gotten many updates... however, I think you are right that SMSI adopts the K.I.S.S. theory a little too much perhaps (as one can see in the gateway interfaces). When emailer was built, folks were happily running unprotected mail servers with no thoughts about the mischief to come in the form of relaying attacks. Since then, mail server admins have had to really bolt down their servers. .... so, since a mail server can be set to auth before relaying.. it makes sense to me to have emailer provide a user/pass. OTOH, can't you set up a rule in your mail server to allow relaying from only that host and only by certain domains? just a thought.
