I think I have it figured out now. Here's what I had, and it worked flawlessly under WebCat 2.6, despite its bad code:[search db=msgbd.db&eqforumdatarq=[forum]&delatestsubsort=1&latestsubtype=date &Subjectsumm=t&max=10&startat=[startat]][founditems]...the meat of the page...[/founditems]| [shownext position=begin]
[start]-[end] |[/shownext][shownext position=middle]
[start]-[end][/shownext][shownext position=end] |
[start]-[end][/shownext] |[/search]After a lot of trial and error, here's what I come up with:| [shownext position=begin]
[start]-[end] |[/shownext]Since my search context only needs the [forum] variable, I got rid of the [searchstring] altogether, and left in only the forum and startat variables. This certainly shortened the URL. Also wrapped [forum] with [url][/url]. What I surmise is that the Shownext context's talent lies in calculating the starting and ending indices for the chunks of the found set, given a max parameter. Is that correct? In other words, if you're using a search context at the top of your page, you can just feed the next page whatever variables you need, along with the starting number so you display what you want. This is really confusing for me, and I know a lot of other people too. Can someone from SM chime in here and clarify this? I know for myself, when I understand what goes on under the hood, I can code better. On other sections of my site, my search originates on the previous page with a form, and in that case, I didn't need the [startat] anywhere at all... the searchstring takes care of everything as advertised. So back to the original point: would any of the things I changed (shortening the URL, losing the [searchstring] following a search _context_, and using [url]...[/url]) cause the latest WebCat 4 to crash WebStar 4.4??? I'm crashing several times a day.ThanksTerryterry@terryfic.com-------------------------------------------------------------This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list
