It is however one ofthe most obscure development environments out there. I'd be surprise if morethan 100 shops on the planet are actively developing websites in WebDNA.Your execs are not opinion leaders. Rather than educate their peers on howthey have selected a superior development environment, they would prefer tohave one more thing in common with their fellow executives at othercorporations. It is this herd mentality that lifts inferior products todominant market shares. They and their peers know (well, not really -- nonecould tell you what languages are used for ASP) what ASP is throughmarketing and word of mouth. They know they gotta have it to be successful. That other company has it and they are successful.Take a few simple snippets of webdna and replicate them in visual basic.Show your executives how a few lines of webdna require tens, hundreds, andin some cases thousands of lines of visual basic to replicate. Explain thatwith hundreds of thousands of excess lines of code in a project that it willtake longer, costs more and is more likely to break than what you using. Also mention that it will be slower. You can't place an appropriate value on WebDNA based on how many people orcompanies are using it. The counter argument that the execs make is that itwill be harder to add staff members who know how to use it since it is soobscure. The answer to that is that WebDNA is simple to learn and use. In mylast company I had more than 10 designers who were capable of integratingWebDNA with their HTML code. You wouldn't necessarily want to have to traindesigners to learn visual basic.Smith Micro will not tell you how many people use WebDNA. But if you aredetermined to get a rough number, we can give it a try. Let's assume thatcompanies actively developing with WebDNA are subscribers to this list. Thismay or may not be a valid assumption, but live with it. So a head count onthis list would give you a number of users. Last time I did this, we barelybroke 100. But let's look again.Go to http://uttermohlen.com/tasks/countme.htm to have your IP counted. Thanks, PaulOn 7/2/02 12:41 PM, Pedro Rivera
