But it is easier to sell 1,000,000 single products at $1each than sell 1 product at $1,000,000. In one situation someone will buy it simplybecause it is a good deal and they are curious. In the other situation you might aswell write an offering prospectus, because you have a very hard sell into themarket!I whole heartily agree. I love WebDNA. I try to convince my customers that it's agreat language. But they cringe when I tell them my hourly rate to program usingthat language, and the cost to host using that language. If I had the free time I'dpublish several articles about how I have been able to get WebDNA to interact withLinux, perl, php and MySQL. So many other people, who do have the time, have writtenmany books on php, perl and MySQL alone. If WebDNA was more readily available I'msure more people would write books about it. Of course the book writers areinterested in making money, but there would be an increasing interest, thusincreasing sales for SmithMicro. So, yes, someone else makes money in thatsituation too, but for every book sold SMI would most likely sell one copy of thesoftware. And they would not spend a dime on advertising! The cost of the new version is out of my budget, for at least a year. I'm glad Ihave a very capable server too, since I don't even have the budget for a secondserver license.SmithMicro needs to do some market studies. Maybe they will figure out that with ussmall shops anything above $500 people stop and think about spending. I understandthat the cost of development is high and you need to recuperate your expenses. Buthere's an anecdote. When I created NJ-SIngles.com we had a simple $20/month premiummembership subscription fee. No one joined. No one wanted to pay $20. So welowered the fee to $7/month and we have several hundred premium members now with atotal membership of 3000 people. It took us about a year to make back outdevelopment cost, but the strategy worked. Some of the new features in v5 are interesting, and rather useful. But I'll staywith the workaround scripts that I have written myself. Is anyone listening? Hello? If the legitimate truths above are not understood letme put it another way...Hey! The _Powers_That_Be_, are you with me? Your loyal subjects are almost chokingfrom all the blood sacrifices we have been offering. Our efforts to convert themasses in the belief of WebDNA is failing because your rites of worship are tooharsh. Strike me down with lightning (or DOS attacks) if you wish, but I proclaimyour good stories as much as possible.
