A couple of years ago, I got a call from my ISP because Smith-Micro contacted them and told them that I was running an illegal serial number on my server. My ISP wanted to shut my server down because of this. After ripping into Smith-Micro for making such a mistake and handling it so poorly, they reissued me a different serial number that didn't conflict with some other serial number they issued. With that said, when WebDNA calls home, the serial number is one of this things that gets passed, along with an IP address, and who knows what else. They really should issue a patch to fix this. After all, one could view this as a 'denial of service' that causes the software to fail. Someone wanna report them to the FBI? ;-) Robie Robie Blair Manager of Web Technology BlairCraft, LLC www.BlairCraft.com rblair@blaircraft.com 719.930.9571 -----Original Message----- From: Colin Sidwell [mailto:webdna@idealinternet.co.uk] Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2008 10:39 AM Subject: Re: Strange intermittent WebDNA problems Workaround Hi, I believe that the phoning home thing was introduced in version 5, can anyone confirm this and if so is there anyone still using v4 and if so, are they having problems? As a side issue, SM are still using DNA for their site, so perhaps they are also having the same issue?
