texte = I would like to chime in here, as a newbie.I am very excited about this new direction for WebDNA. A year ago, I startedteaching myself web programming, so that I could create a few webapplications for the landscape business. I got a subscription to SafariBooks Online, and, with their wonderful selection of web development books,I taught myself HTML, XHTML, and CSS. When it came time to put some life andfunctionality into my applications, a friend told me WebDNA was the best wayto go. He said it was a powerful and efficient language.I looked all over for books, so that I could teach myself WebDNA, as I haddone with the other languages. But I couldn't find any books. The onlyteaching tool I could find, outside of the WebDNA.us website, was BrianBurton's website with tutorials. Brian's tutorials are excellent, butlimited, and I burned through them quickly. The video tutorials that Donovanmade were very good too, and I watched them several times. But they focusedmostly on store building, and my applications are very different from thestore model. Also, the online references on the WebDNA site are excellent, but I have a hard time understanding them, because I have no programmingbackground.I was very tempted to go over to PHP and MySQL, because there was a plethoraof books and tutorials available. I did a search for PHP books on SafariBooks Online, and found 143 books and video tutorials with PHP in the title. There were over 4,700 more books with at least a chapter dedicated to PHP. Idid a search on WebDNA, and found its name mentioned in one reference bookon servers that was published in 2006. Just as I was about to bail over to PHP, I decided to give WebDNA one morego. I tried to take the Christophe's Tea Room application that comes withthe WebDNA package, and plug my application into it. In my very limitedunderstanding of this language, and programming in general, it was quicklyclear that this approach wasn't going to work. So I got on the WebDNA Forum, and asked for help. Govinda was there immediately to take me by the hand, and walk me through the code, acting as my programming teacher. If not forGovinda's patience and good graces, I would not have become intimate withthis amazing language.I read every email that comes down the pike on this talk forum. I havelearned so much, and so appreciate the sense of community and camaraderiehere. The participants are sharp, creative, and responsive. I love thismojo! You guys are the best! If the new direction is geared to attractingmore WebDNA developers, and it looks like it is... I, for one, give a big"thumbs up". Who knows, maybe some of you will start writing some books. :) In deep appreciation and support,Lori -----Original Message-----From: Donovan Brooke [mailto:dbrooke@euca.us] Sent: Wednesday, October 26, 2011 6:19 PMTo: talk@webdna.usSubject: Re: [WebDNA] WebDNA 7I just did a test on a ubuntu9x - WebDNA7 config and globals still works!(I manually added a globals directory where the root of the WebDNA.fcgifile is and called a file from there)Now, I may be running a beta WebDNA7?? so I don't know if work wasdone to remove it.I have my 'WebDNA.fcgi' installed in a local cgi-bin directory.??anyway.. thought I'd test that while I'm awaiting rdc info from a client tonight.Ultimately, it would be better to have the ability to move thatGlobals directory wherever you want it.. via referencing a path in the webdna.ini file.Donovan-- Donovan BrookeEuca Design Centerwww.euca.uswww.keepitturning.co---------------------------------------------------------This message is sent to you because you are subscribed tothe mailing list
